Let's talk costumes, shall we? With Halloween only about a week away, I believe this is an important conversation. I've posted on this topic before, but I feel the need to say it again. Be creative! Don't rely on some Walmart bargain costume or some slutty _______ (fill in the blank) costume. I recently found
an article about this amazing little girl who proves, daily, that creating an interesting costume is as easy as finding an idea and looking in your closet. Let me introduce you to eight year old Stella Ehrhart; she dresses as a different historical figure or fictional character EVERY day of the year. For inspiration she looks to a book titled
'100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century' and then she pulls together an outfit from what she has in her closet. You too can be cleaver! Down with slutty Halloween I say! Use your brains people.
Here is Stella as Elvis Costello.
Emily Dickenson
Hermione Granger
Jane Goodall
Billy Holiday
Helen Keller
Grace Kelly
Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi
Mary Todd Lincoln
Georgia O'Keeffe
I love that this girl is being supported in her creativity; kudos to her parents and to the teachers at her school. So awesome.
