At the San Diego MOCA there is currently an exhibit up of works done by Vik Muniz. His chosen medium is photography, but in all reality he's a sculptor. Muniz builds an image out of objects and then photographs it and alters the size of the photograph to imitate famous, and not so famous, works of art. Picture Monet's "Water Lilies", done to scale out of the debris from a hole puncher. Jackson Pollock creating a painting, done out of chocolate syrup. A peanut butter and jelly "Mona Lisa". The whole exhibit was full of surprises, and inside jokes; basically it was wonderful. This was another exhibit where I wasn't allowed to photograph anything, but I did find this video of one of his works being created on youtube.
