One of the cutest science questions yet.

While teaching my lights and lasers class I was asked, "Why are they called 'Grandma Rays'?"

You know, 'Grandma Rays', the highest frequency on the electromagnetic spectrum; high in radiation, used to kill living organisms in a process called irradiation. It was almost sad to tell her that they are called 'Gamma Rays'.
